Community Museum Assistance Program Workshops

The CMAP review process is underway and workshops have already taken place in the Northeastern, Central, and Cape Breton region. The Southwest Region workshop is happening today (Dec 6th).

Below are the questions discussed at the workshops. If you were unable to attend but would like to provide feedback, please send your comments on these questions to Paul Collins at  This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .

Question 1
Do the current CMAP criteria (located in the CMAP Policy http://museum.gov.ns.ca/cmap/CMAP_policy.pdf) adequately reflect who should be a CMAP site? Do they reflect the evolving museum definition and role of community museums and the environment in which you work?

Question 2
Is the CMAP evaluation score the right tool to help determining funding allocations and eligibility?
- if yes, how would you use the score to determine the sites that can enter CMAP?
- if no, what is the right tool, or combination of tools, to determine how a site enters CMAP?

Question 3
What do you think the role of the ANSM should be as we move forward with a potentially new CMAP in the future?

Festive Advocacy Campaign

This festive season ANSM is encouraging museums around the province to send out a personal greeting to their Member of Parliament, Member of the Provincial Legislation and Municipal Councilors. Now is an excellent opportunity to send greetings and say Thank you for support over the preceding year and provide a brief update on activities.

Fiscal restraint is foremost in the minds of all elected officials these days. Cuts to heritage funding will have serious implications for all museums in the province. A reminder of the important role the museum fills in a community and how stretched financial and human resources already are can be compelling. Visit our website for information about organizing a Festive Greeting.
