"Museum Management & Governance" Workshop: Museum Studies Program

Learning Outcomes

A strong governance framework is the backbone of a healthy, sustainable and forward thinking organisation. Join facilitators Barbara Richman & Leah Hamilton as they examine the structure, management and governance of museums; the roles and responsibilities of boards, staff and volunteers; and the key tools and skills needed to fulfill those roles and responsibilities.

Museums face many challenges and key amongst these is maintaining relevance and engaging our communities. Join Candace Matelic for two days of transformational instruction as you learn about engaging your community and the long term benefits for your museum.

IT Equipment Purchase Program

ANSM is continuing its IT equipment purchase program this fall with the goal of providing cost savings and procurement efficiencies for IT and technology-related equipment for its member museums.  The equipment is specifically chosen for small/mid size museum use – good quality for price, ease of use, robust capacity.

The following types of equipment can be sourced through this program:

4.      Accessories & support equipment

The Canadian Heritage Information Network (CHIN) would like to better understand the volume and type of digital material in the custody of member museums, and identify their training needs in the field of digital preservation. We would like to encourage you to take their 19 question survey. The results will offer a firm foundation on which to develop digital preservation initiatives in the Canadian cultural and heritage community. Halifax Regional Municipality wants to learn about family traditions that are important to children in our region. The Traditions Writing and Art Contest seeks creative submissions from children ages 5 to 11 which demonstrate their family traditions through both pictures and words. For full contest details and submission guidelines, please visit their website. CCI is pleased to offer Conservation Guidelines for Outdoor Murals. Murals can revitalize cities and towns, reduce graffiti, provide positive programs for youth and troubled neighborhoods, and attract new business and tourism. This guide will help municipalities and heritage groups plan, create, and care for murals that will remain a source of beauty and community pride for many years.


Culture Days are on Sept 30, Oct 1 & 2, 2011. It's a collaborative pan-Canadian volunteer movement to raise the awareness, accessibility, participation and engagement of all Canadians in the arts and cultural life of their communities. You can add your events to the Culture Days calendar here.
