There are four membership categories/options:
Members are organizations that own and/or operate, govern, or manage a museum.
The museum-governing organization has two votes at the Annual General meeting and any other occasion where formal voting is required. These two votes are cast by two different people so designated by the museum-governing organization.
In situations where a museum-governing organization is responsible for operating more than one museum, the organization may join with a single membership and list the individual museums for which it is responsible. Membership benefits, such as workshop discounts or conference bursaries, will be available based on the assumption that the organization is joining for one museum only.
A museum-governing organization responsible for operating more than one museum may enroll more than one if it pays a membership fee for each museum. In such circumstances the organization may designate two voters on behalf of each museum that it has enrolled, and receive workshop discounts or conference bursaries for each.
Should there be museum-governing scenarios that are not covered by the above situations then the Board of Directors of the ANSM will make a decision based on the individual circumstances.
Organization members are heritage organizations, government departments, agencies or divisions, or businesses. Organizational members have one vote cast by a designated individual.
There are three types of individual memberships: annual, lifetime and students (high school or university, currently enrolled). Individuals have one vote.
Honourary Lifetime Memberships are granted from time to time to an individual by the Association’s Board of Directors in recognition of service to the Association of Nova Scotia Museums (or the former Federation of Nova Scotian Heritage).
